25 Gun Safe Winchester
Is it safe to use steel shot with an original Poly-Choke system?
I recently purchased a used winchester 1200/ model 2200 shotgun. The gun is approximately 25 to 30 years old, 2 3/4 chamber, 12 ga.. It has an original Poly-Choke system fixed to the end. The gun and choke are in excellent condition. I have had trouble finding information as to the possibility of safely using steel shot with this set-up.
Your gun if 25 years old was made after the mid to late 70's lead ban for waterfowl. So it should be good if its free of cracks and in good condition.
I would shoot with the choke open meaning mod,ic or bore setting if you are worried and for less wear. My Rem 870 and 1100 full chokes from the 70's have shot thousands of rounds of steel and the bores are like new. So there you go.

There are some shops that can assist you for the selection of your hunting guns. These shops can either be online or over the counter.
