How is the Army Combat Uniform effective camouflage?
The ACU's are effective in woodland, desert, and urban. Even though they're not optimized for any one in particular, how did the Army come to choose the pattern? I can understand that color blending is not the only way that camouflage works. You want to break up the outline of the body. I always hear soldiers complain that the ACU's pattern is worthless. All joking aside, I know the Army would not field a worthless camouflage.
It is the next generation of camo, not based as much on blending in as confusing the eye. One person above commented about the Magic Eye pictures. The more you look at them, the worse your vision gets.
There are a number of proven ways to confuse the eye. For example, if you look at something green for a long time, then look at something white, you see red. Or the spinning disk that you watch for 30 seconds then look at your hand and it looks like your hand is morphing... The new camo is designed to mess with your vision. Where it really comes in good is at night. Try looking at it thru an infra-red or night vision scope sometime.
Along with the digital camo, they designed the pockets so they are easier to reach when wearing body armor. All in all, a much better design than the old BDUs....

ACU Plate Carrier/Loadout
For ARMY recruiters or any1 who has real knowledge on this...?
Ok so my cousin is trying to go active duty in the army, you know follow in my footsteps n what not. Im a corporal but idk jack squat about recruitment requirements and stuff. Anyway believe it or not hes in the army already, hes in the national guard but hes sort of a lard ass lol. I mean hes FAT. Hes 300 lbs even. How this fucker is still in ACU's beats d shit outta me but he is. In my opinion he should b chaptered out but thats justs me. Im not making excuses 4 the tubby but he went through some ish back home n gained weight. Now b4 u go off on him 4 being a damn twinkies hes committed to getting back in shape but he dnt know how much weight or at wat body fat percent he has to be to get into active. He haven't been to a recruiter yet cuz we both know the recruiter will Just laugh in his face. Ive already started a work out routine wit him n hes even joined a weightlifting n conditioning class in his college. But we need to know how much he needs to loose. Any help???
As a CPL you should know where to find the information your looking for. I guess I am more upset with the names you have called him. Regardless if he is overweight or not thats bashing him. look up Army height and weight standards.
