What is the difference, if any, between Body Armor and a Bullet-Proof Vest?
Body Armor (an IBA), the type you get issued when you get deployed is meant to be used to stop bullets and protect you from shrapnel. An IBA comes in the traditional small, medium, large, x-large size. It's also pretty heavy and worn on the outside of your uniform.
A bullet-proof vest, like the one issued to the NYPD is not as durable as the IBA, but it's custom made to your body so that you can wear underneath your uniform and is lighter.

All About the Kevlar Vest
The fact that the armor vest can offer you a lot of benefits on terms of safety has made it one of the most popular items of safety equipment.
