Bullet Resistant Glass
My glass house is constructed with bullet resistant glass; does this mean I can throw stones now?
Yes, but they will bounce off the glass walls, back into your house, possibly harming you or your belongings. Why would you want to do that?
I suggest you throw your stones at people outside of your house.
Especially those who have characteristics you abhor, but that you may also possess.

Is there such a thing as bullet resistant glass for residential use? Looking for smthng to stop stray bullets?
I live in a trendy up and coming area of Los Angeles that still has its random gang bangers that shoot at each other while driving by on the street every so often. Two children have been killed by stray bullets in my neighborhood in the last 3 years. I am renovating my home now and I'd like to put in bullet or impact resistant glass, if there is something like that for homeowners. I can't use that lexan stuff that is one inch thick... that would be too much! The street is about 100 feet from my windows, so its not close range protection that I'm looking for.

It might be simpler to ban gang bangers from having guns. Oh wait, you live in LA, sorry but the Mayor wants the gangs to be armed.
So much for the snide answers. Now down to the practical side. First of all, you need the max protection on the front and sides of the house, there is little likelihood of a shot coming in from the rear.
The next question is what do you want to protect against. In general most of the bangers use pistols on each other, so you need to protect against pistol cartridges. The most prevalent is the 9x19 (9mm Luger). The gangsters seem to consider that to be a good cartridge for their purposed.
As to protection against that cartridge, you will need to install what amounts to triple pane windows. An outer layer of glass, a layer of lexan about 1/2" thick and a inner layer of glass. These must all be laminated together to be effective. You will also need to armor your walls, in your neighborhood, I might consider a layer of clay brick. It is not too expensive, it looks nice, and all you need to do is to run rebar through it to keep it from falling off during earthquakes.
