Bulletproof Vest Size
Bulletproof vests?
I am a large man and the plate vests seem to cover less than 50 of an average size man, and i am definitley not average. I also have noticed that these plate vests do not seem to cover the heart! I want to have a vest that will give me coverage over a larger surface area. I have looked into kevlar but i am worried about rifle rounds. I have heard companies claim to stop rifle rounds but i do not know the validity due to the source. If anyone has any suggestions or knowlege about this subject please help.
If the vest is properly fitted, it should cover most of your sternum (heart), even if you're 6'5". If it's too low still, you have to modify the height of the sleeve that holds the trauma plate, preferably from the company who made it. I think you can also get larger plates, but proper fitment will serve you better. You want to get level IV plates for for rifle rounds, which is now available to the public. IIIA can stop the smaller high-powered stuff, but IV can handle 7.62x39 if I'm not mistaken.
In regards to kevlar, try using Spectrashield instead. Kevlar's fibers will breakdown with heavy usage (sweat, moisture, oils and whatnot), which does not affect Spectrashield. I've used my vest for a year and a half with heavy sweating and usage. I checked the layers to see if there was any "fraying" or wear--none.

does anyone no what a US Marine Corps bulletproof vest Dated May 7 1968 May be worth if i was to sell it?
its green,its us marine corps, size med,KAYDE MANUFACTURERS INC. Dated May 7 1968. It also say on it ARMOR,BODY,FRAGMENTATION PROTECTIVE; UPPER TORSO;(W/COOLAR,M-1955)
That is not a bullet proof vest it is merely a FRAG vest however that is a pretty neat item and would be worth between $5 and $90 to some one who is a collector or buff especially of Vietnam era equipment. ...... Shadow Stalker
