I am currently being charged with 2 felonies which I tend to take to trial to prove my innocence.?
I do not feel safe or comfortable having a public defender represent me nor can I afford a private council. My question is, what would I need to know to represent myself? Is there private who will take my case for free? I live in Hernando County Florida. My charges are 2nd degree burglary and 3rd degree grand theft. I pretty much have an open/closed case proving my innocence.
Two men who were on death row for over 25 years were just released from prision in my town who were wrongfully accused. Please don't patronize me on telling me I must be guilty. In Florida, anyone can be arrested and charged with hear say. And in this state you are guilty until proven innocent. I gathered up my evidence and have a ligit alibi so instead of telling me since I'm up against 2 felonies that I must have done it. I am accused of going into my ex-friends home and taking a ps3. No witnesses and no evidence. Just words. So plz just answer my questions and keep your ignorance to yourself!
So, you figure you know more about trying a felony case than a Public Defender? You think a lawyer who would take your case for free is more qualified than a Public Defender? You are in FLORIDA. The hanginest state in the US. I've been practicing law for 30 years, and I would not represent myself in this state. You need an experienced attorney. PD's are experienced attorneys. Most of the defendant's rights cases, like Miranda, had PD's involved at some point or another. There is NOBODY here who can tell you "what you need to know" to represent yourself. This is not a small claims action to recover money from a landlord. This is your life you are talking about. If you had an "open/closed case proving your innocence," the charges would not have been brought. You would not be the first innocent person to draw 10 years in prison in Florida.
I'm not trying to give you a hard time. I prosecuted cases. I defended cases. And I'm here to tell you that a person who represents themselves has a fool for a client. I doubt a judge would allow you to represent yourself. But under no circumstances should you even THINK about doing it.
EDIT FOR ASKER'S ADDITIONAL FACTS: So, if you don't get the answer you want, people who answer are ignorant? What does the fact that two guys on death row were innocent tell you? Perhaps not having a lawyer is not a good idea? I believe in innocence until proven guilty. But the fact is, people who do not have attorney's are tilting the scales against themselves. If you are going to be this arrogant when people "accuse" you or don't believe you on Yahoo Answers, how do you think you are going to respond to a prosecutor who has the right to ruin your life? If you want to try your case, I suggest you get off Yahoo and get yourself down to a law library or buy a research program so you can learn things that matter. Making wise remarks to people who are trying to answer your question isn't going to keep you out of jail. Guilty or innocent.

Why can't everything be free?
Like why can't we just get things for free and only work because we have to. We don't need money to work. Imagine how much easier it would be. No taxes, no poor and rich, no robberies and burglaries, nothing. People could still be at the stores to ensure that it's safe and secure and people don't go nuts and get like 20 iPods that they don't need. And if more than one person wanted something that there was only one of like an animal then the owner could draw a name out of a hat. Why can't it be like that?
Sounds like a lovely idea, but its just not realistic.
If everything was free you would be relying too much on the character of a person.
What's to stop a person from going into a shop and taking everything? People WILL go nuts unfortunately. And people will probably not turn up to work. And the drawing out of the hat thing would be complained about too, "that person doesn't need it as much as I do, I work harder..." etc. etc.
