Cabinet Rifle Shotgun
I'm a gun owner moving to California. What laws do I need to be aware of?
I am a proud owner or 2 antique 12 gauge shotguns (one doesn't fire just an heirloom) 1 20 gage shotgun, a couple of .22 rifles and one .22 revolver. They stay in a locked wooden cabinet.
Most are are gifts and hand me down guns from relatives and I would like to safely, legally, and properly keep them for hunting.
When moving, of what should I be aware?
I guess I should also mention that I do have a permit to carry a concealed weapon in my home state. I guess it doesn't apply in CA.
Long guns are not an issue (as long as they're not on the "prohibited" weapons list - but that shouldn't be a problem.
Legally speaking, you're supposed to register any concealable firearms when coming into California (within 60 days) - see http://caag.state.ca.us/firearms/ab991.php.

Out-of-state CCWs are no good here. It's very easy in some counties to get a ccw (generally the rural/Central Valley/mountains), and impossible in other counties (SF Bay Area, LA, Santa Barbara area, etc...).

Gun Cabinet Learn The Basics
If you are an avid hunter, or a collector of firearms, you probably need a gun cabinet or safe to keep your equipment organized and well-protected from moisture and dust. It is also important to keep them locked and away from children or animals, either of whom might otherwise cause a dangerous accident. Before you venture out to make your purchase, however, there are a few things you will need to remember in order to assure that you are getting the right setup for your collection.
Storage like this comes in many types and sizes. Typically constructed from strong woods like oak they stand around six feet tall and can hold any number of rifles or shotguns, depending on the width.
Most also feature a pistol shelf and ammunition drawer so as to keep all of your equipment in one place. Many of these drawers also have a key lock.
The inside is often lined with felt and the doors can contain tempered glass to display your firearms while keeping them well protected.
You might also find them made out of steel which resembles a large safe, where you might keep office records and petty cash. Some feature hidden or concealed compartments and some have beveled glass and wood veneer.
Once you know the dimensions that you require, and have chosen a finish for your wood frame, it is time to order your gun cabinet. Retailers who specialize in the outdoor sports are a good place to start, but you will likely find the best prices and selection on the internet. Big box stores are great for displays, hands-on experience, and expert knowledge, but you usually pay a little extra for the showroom too.
