Car Gun Safe Vehicles
Bear problem- we live right at the edge of civilization where they send problem bears. What gun should I buy?
We're having a bear problem in the area, as we have a cabin right at the edge of civilization where they send the problem bears from around the state. There have been a few car break-ins, and tent break-ins in the area, and as of the last several weeks we have found bear Scat within feet of our home and cars. The nearest other houses are a few miles away. We are really in the middle of it, and we see the bears enough when we are out and about to know they are here.
I do have a small hand gun (Keltec P3AT), but I am not allowed to bring a handgun into New York State. Even if I was however, I know this would do very little to nothing against a bear.
What type of gun should I keep on hand should a situation arise between ourselves, our horses, or our vehicles/home and a bear? I hope nothing ever happens, but I just don't feel safe without any sort of protection, especially given a lack of phone service or cell phone signal.

Bear mace, always have it with you, and members of your family should have some and know how to use it. Bear proof your cabin, re-inforced door, bars on windows to keep bears out. Keep food properly contained to keep bears away from your cabin, keep your garbage away from your cabin, bears may be attracted to it. Last resort 12 guage slug shotgun, locked in gun cabinet, and slugs locked in a ammo box in another area of your cabin, proper gun care/storage, hunter safety course for anyone to handle the shotgun at the cabin, and have every one to handle the 12 guage practice shooting it, target practice. Have a good time at the cabin, but be prepared just in case. The next step would be for protecting your horses etc., get a rifle, .30-06, or 7mm Remington Magnum, or for double the power, more recoil kick, .375 H&H or .30-378 Weartherby, again Hunter Safety course, and practice, and proper storage.The local people and authorities in the area may need to set up a meeting to discuss the bears and what needs to be done.

How long does it take to investigate an armed robbery?
2 1/2 weeks ago I went to the ATM. I punched in my pin number and as soon as I did a guy came walking out of no where up to my car. He told me to leave and showed me a gun.
Obviously, I left right away. I was really scared. My 7 year old and 1 year old daughters were in the car with me when it happened.
Anyways, the police got the tape from the ATM camera and found out there are 2 suspects on tape. The detective said he wants me to come in to identify which one on the tape actually came up to my vehicle.
I haven't heard from the detective since I called last week. I live in a big city and I know there are worse crimes being commited, but I feel like my case has been blown off. Thankfully my kids and I are safe, but I still want these bastards caught and locked up.
How long does it take to investigate this sort of thing? Should I keep calling the detective or wait for him to call me?
Also, what kind of sentence do criminals get for this sort of situation?
