Carpet Deoderizer Can
How hazarous is this for my cats?
I recently caught my bf putting the same stuff we put on our carpets (the powder deoderizer that u put on the carpet then vaccuum it up) in our cats litter boxes. he said it''ll make it "smell better" I read to him that it specifically says to not use around pets and children, until vacuummed up. I'm was furious with him. I can't help but think about when they scratch in their litter boxes and get that stuff on their paws and then lick them. I know its gotta make them sick! I was just wondering how sick or what the long term effects of using that stuff could be. who knows how long he's been putting that in there! They seem fine, but im' still worried. I dont know why he wouldn't just buy the stuff that is specifally for litter boxes.
Actually the stuff itself and depends on foam or powder when it says about children and animals. Alot of companys will post that warning just because it was not tested on animals and long term studies they dont have. If you vacumned it up before they could ingest the actual product I wouldnt worry though

Is there anyway to get cat urine odor out of carpet/padding?
I just moved into a new home that the previous tenant lived in it for about a year and he was a cat owner. Let me tell you as most who answer me will already know, cat urine is the worst there is. The ammonia gives you headaches, makes you want to hold your breath, just makes you want to be in other rooms altogether.I know urine can be extracted out of the carpet fibers with various products, the problem is the padding based on my research. When it gets there people say there is no turning back. I dont see why something cant soak into the carpet and padding the same way the urine did and maybe not remove the urine but neutralize the ammonia smell. I can follow all the careful steps required in drying this carpet this isnt a problem. There has to be some chemistry here that will work, buying an expensive can of spray on deoderizer is a waste. A Home brewed method is preferred. I know someone here has done it 
To remove the smell of urine from just about anything, first clean it with some sort of soap or kitchen cleaner. Then clean it with lemon juice. If you don’t like the smell of lemon juice follow it up with a little bit of vanilla extract. One of the most effective formulas I’ve found for removing ANY odor was from Popular Science Magazine. Mix 1 quart of Hydrogen Peroxide, with 1/4 cup of Baking Soda, and one tablespoon of liquid dishwashing soap. Saturate the affected area, rinse thoroughly with clean water, and the smell is gone. This is non-toxic and safe for your animals and children, and those with allergies. This is especially helpful for removing skunk odor from your outdoor animals. As always, test a small portion of fabric for color fastness, before treating a large area.
What Won’t Work...
There are many home remedies for treating pet stains and odors, and let me stress that most of them are not too bad as far as removing odors for humans’ noses. Vinegar, ammonia, baking soda, laundry detergents, lemon juice, fabric softeners, and commercial strength pet stain removers are all great for removing the odors that humans can smell.
HOWEVER; you will need more to remove the odor for your cat’s nose. An enzymatic cleaner is the best answer, but it is slow and may take more than one application. (Nature’s Miracle is one of them.) The Hydrogen Peroxide/Baking Soda combo is fast, but can alter the colors of some fabrics. In the end, you must decide which application is best for your situation.
Even if you clean a pet stain with soap and water certain micro-organisms remain behind and your pet can smell them. Enzymatic Cleaners are designed to completely eliminate the source of the odor by using enzymes to eat away the micro-organisms that cause the odor. The one drawback to these cleaners is that they are slow; it could take several weeks for them to completely eliminate an odor. Enzymantic Cleaners are available at most pet stores, organic/natural/health food stores, and even some hardware stores. You can also ask your vet for suppliers.
