Cash Large Security
Is this something that needs to be reported?
My brother is working as a construction worker, unfortunately in this case, for cash. He works 40+ hours a week for $20-25 per hour (depending on what he's doing). However, he never gets paid the full amount, maybe gets 25% of what he's owed. There is always an excuse from his employer-"The client didn't pay me yet", "I have to pay for my 3 houses, and I have my own bills to pay", "I have to get materials for the next job", etc. One excuse after the other. My brother makes excuses for him all the time (they're old friends). He has quite a few employees, I believe he pays cash to the majority of them, and he also has quite a large crew of immigrant hispanics (doubt they're legal). The immigrant crew always seems to get paid what they're due. I'm assuming if he's treating his employees this way, he's not paying taxes, social security, etc. I'm sure how many employees, if any, are actually getting legitimate paychecks. Is there any recourse? My brother lives in Wisconsin.
Of course he's not paying any of those things...and neither is your brother. He could be in big trouble if he complains or reports anything as he is involved in federal tax evasion. Your brother's hands are VERY dirty here. He could be seeing prison time.
So, yes, your brother can report him, but then he will be responsible for all the back taxes that he hasn't paid. I'm betting he is completely aware of that fact and that is why he puts up with the situation.

If they sell large quantities of their investments and you have money in the stock market in those securities that they have to sell, won't your stocks lose value rather quickly? With all these companies claiming subprime losses, is it a wonder to you that people stay invested at all?

Here in UK the value of properties is far greater than the outstanding money owed on mortgages. People should realise this and stop worrying. Major mortgage brokers are already talking property prices up here in UK.
Where I live in London, the economy is separate from the rest of UK and we're just booming. Just don't even think of asking why, who cares, just grab your share while it's going. London since Roman times has always been a law unto itself. Mad and dangerous but wonderful too.
