Can you deposit cash in a Chase ATM?
I bank with chase (formerly WaMu) and I'm worried about putting my cash on an envelope and depositing through the ATM machine because, unlike a check, it doesn't have my name anywhere so I'm afraid the machine could lose track of the envelope and lose all my money and have the bank claim that I never made such deposit. Am I being unreasonably paranoid? Is it safe and reliable to deposit cash in the ATM?

Yes, you will need a deposit envelope and a deposit slip plus an accounting of how much you are depositing, but most ATM's do that for you. A deposit will require you to enter your card and verify your information just as a regular teller would, so your account tracking should be ok.
