Is it safe to connect an old hard drive to a new computer to retrieve files?
My old computer had a virus and now won't come all the way on on. I posted a question about it here:

I just got a new computer today, and I was wondering if it is safe for me to connect the hard drive of the old computer to the new computer to retrieve the files?
They are both eMachine computers.
It is risky, unless you really know what you are doing. I'd advise you to find a buddy or neighbor or someone who has plenty of experience BUILDING (and upgrading) computer systems to help you with this.
You have to make sure that after you install the old hard drive...that the system boots off of the NEW hard drive (the one that came with the new computer) Otherwise, the virus will infect the new hard drive, also.
See, you'll have two hard drives in the computer with OS installed. If the new computer tries to boot the wrong hard drive, both hard drives could be infected by the virus from the old hard drive.
There are safe ways to do this, but it requires some technical knowledge, the kind that someone who builds (repairs, upgrades) computers professionally would have. You can make sure that the NEW hard drive (the clean one) is the one that boots. Then you will have to run antivirus software to scan the WHOLE system (all hard drives, as it's possible the new one could be coincidentally infected). Then you will use the new OS to copy any data you want to copy off of the old hard drive.
I don't suggest you try this alone.

Connecting Wood Beams
Is it safe to connect aftermarket accessories to the alternator terminal rather than directly to the battery?
For example a woofer setup or HID headlamps. I'm wondering because the car I recently purchased has the battery relocated to the trunk, which is very inconvenient for installing my aftermarket HID headlamps. Thanks
In addition, anyone have any suggestions?
As annoying it may be, it would be good idea to run wire from battery and also remember to use correct relays and fuses to eliminate any unwanted headache. You will find that there should be set of relays/fuses located under the bonnet for headlights, tail lights and other high power demand units.
Although, if you think about it, I really can't see real harm to pinch into wire going to battery from alternator providing you use correct circuit breaker/fuse and relay as power going from alternator is only going to the battery so, if you bypass the process, it might be acceptable. Best thing is also get auto electrician's advice on this as they might have totally different opinion on this.
