Can the umbilical cord get wrapped around babies neck during pregnancy?
I was just wondering can the umbilical cord get wrapped around the babies neck sometime during pregnancy? Like not at delivery time but anytime during the pregnancy? And if it can how would you know?? I was just thinking about this the other day and was wondering if it could, im a first time mommy 29 weeks pregnant. I thought maybe you guys might know something about it. Thanks!
This is a very common event and happens one third of all births.
The umbilical cord is covered with a thick protective coating known as Wharton's Jelly. This is like gristle in texture and prevents the baby from compressing the arteries and vein that run through the cord. So the cord being wrapped does not usually pose a problem for baby

Umbilical cord wrapped around baby's neck?
Yesterday I went in to have a ultrasound done to check how baby is growing. After the ultrasound I found out the the umblical cord is wrapped around his neck twice. My doctor had me do an nst and a biophsycal scan and wants me to continue with them twice a week. I am 35 weeks and 3 days, my next visit is Monday. She said she wants me to at least get to 36 weeks and 37 if possible, and then she will induce. I am so worried something will happen to him in between now and delivery. Has anyone had any similar experiences?
I can't say that I know of anyone in the suitation but if it was real serious, then the doctors would of done something right away. Try not to be stressed out about it and live it up to the docs... they have been through this before... best of luck to you and your peanut!

Song means a lot to a very many people, and that's good. We've all got a story, some sad, some tragic. Got me to thinking about the Medics – the Corpman and women – noncombatants who risk all to “save a life” of a fellow serviceman or woman. Often they do know 'how to save a life' even if it means exchanging their life for another. But sometimes they don't . So the lyrics remind us how precious a life is, and how fleeting. So it's really worthwhile to 'try to save a life'.
