Do you need FDA approval for over the counter eye drops?
We are in the process of completing an eye drop made from herbal products that will increase vision without glasses
Yes. Because you're creating something designed to change the way the body functions, you're creating a product that would be classified as a drug and you'd be firmly in FDA territory. I'd URGE you to go through the FDA's regs for drugs before you go any further with the development of your product. And talking w/ an attorney (just to make sure you're covered) wouldn't be a bad idea, either. The bar is very, very high for new drugs and I'd hate to see you get into trouble just because you didn't do your homework.
A lot of people (even some in the biz) think you can just slap on a disclaimer but if you'll go through some of the old FDA warning letters (letters sent to manufacturers) you'll see that this just isn't true.
