Crime Manual, Should I?
I have a BS in criminal justice and a BS in psychology from a major univ. I have completed 3 semesters of law school at a tier 1 law school. In short I have studied the law, police and criminals both formally and informally most of my life. My wife is ill and I need $$ very badly.I have been offered an advance that would care for my wife for many months, plus a % of the gross for the right to publish a SATIRICAL crime manual I have written. My first obligation is to my wife but if there was an individual or group that would be interested in the rights to this satirical manual and keep it off the market I would prefer that. To be honest some of the info provided(example law enforcement tactics used to encourage confessions are described) could create difficulties for law enforcement. Any ideas on how to locate such a group or individual?
Why would anyone want the rights if they weren't planning to publish it ?
The RIGHTS to a manual are the publishing rights anyway, what other rights do you think you could sell ? And by selling the rights you have no more say in it, so they would be free to do with it what they wanted regardless of what they promised you beforehand. Once again, who would buy it if they weren't allowed to use it.
Chances are there is nothing in there that criminals don't already know, and there's probably nothing in there that hasn't been published already, if you know where to look.
Also, if it's satire and you are not naming specific departments or persons, then there can be no litigation unless someone can prove that your manual is encouraging crime.
If it's really worth the read and extremely sensitive material, you might get it published underground but don't expect any decent reimbursement for it.
