Can I freeze Fluffy?
My vet told me that our tabby, Fluffy, has feline leukemia and only has a few months. I was reading about how Walt Disney is cyrogenically frozen in Cinderella's Castle and I was wondering if I could freeze Fluffy until medical science has come up with a cure? Then I read it was expensive so can I do it myself? Sears has a sale on chest freezers and I think I would only need like 7 cubic feet. I'm not sure about the anti-freeze though - I've heard it's poisonous for dogs and cats. Anyone have any experience in this field?
Yes, anti-freeze will certainly hasten her demise, and it's almost as bad as the feluke as far as pain and suffering. And do you really want to see your poor dead cat every time you need to fill your ice-chest or want to grill a steak? You'd also have to buy some of those really big freezer bags that you can suck the air out of, or else she'll emerge from her frosty slumber with a wicked case of freezer burn. AND you'll also have to invest in a generator so she doesn't thaw out during a power outage, and in that case do you go with a diesel generator, risking future oil shortages, or go with some kind of battery backup, which is expensive but maybe more reliable after the end of civilization? Then there's all that baking soda you'll have to buy and change every six months so she doesn't smell like fish when she's resurrected... So the costs are going to add up. Save an ear instead and get her cloned in a few years.
PS-- I've had a few cats taken by feline leukemia in my time. It's always hard. Vaccinate your kittens and I'm sorry for your loss.
