Survey to jump start potential home business: Does anyone admire log furniture?
For example, headboard, footboard beds, what size, king, queen, double, twin? Specify which. Pine, Cedar, oak, sycamore, cherry, mamosa logs, simple or elaborate design. Clear or stained finish (what color stain). There are many log furniture builders online which are very expensive, The average person cannot afford this type of furniture. I want to build unique products, the average person can afford to buy. How much would you spend on a custom bed of your design?
We just bought a custom white cedar log bed...king-sized...built in Northern Michigan. We paid the wholesaler $480 and $100 for the delivery. Like dummies, we thought we could easily do the set up ourselves. Real dummies. They're very difficult to put together because every log was custom cut and we needed comealongs and straps to hold things in place while pounding the side logs in place on both top and bottom. I'd have happily paid them $100 to assemble if I knew then what I knew now.
Realistically, king white cedar beds retail in Michigan for between $800-1500. Pine runs about $100 cheaper. The designs would be considered "rustic" or "Amish" in style.

PS if you do start this company, don't tell my husband. He'd decorate every inch of this house with logs and I'd never have a moment's peace!

Where can I donate or sell sawdust in Houston?
We are a custom wood trim shop. And weekly, we disposed about a 1/2 - ton of sawdust. For the most part is red oak, but it is mixed with small amounts of other woods like, maple, cherry, poplar, hickory, and exotic woods. Again, the majority (about 95% of it, or sometimes even 100%) is red oak. Our waste company comes and pick it up every week when the contairner is full. So if somebody needs a small amount, more than welcome to come and get it. It will save me money.
I wonder if this would be suitable for large animal stalls? You could check if there are any stables in your area that would like free shavings.
