Iraqi Turkmens

Iraqi Turkmens

$79.66

The Iraqi Turks or Iraqi Turkmens (commonly misspelled as Turcomans, Turkomens, and Iraqi Turkmans) (Turkish: Irak Trkmenleri/Irak Trkleri) are a distinct Turkic ethnic group, the thirdlargest ethnic group (after Arabs and Kurds) in Iraq, living mostly in northern Iraq, in an area which they call Turkmeneli, notably in the cities of Kirkuk, Arbil, Tal Afar, and Mosul. There are also significant numbers of Turkmen in the central provinces of Baghdad, Wasit. Estimates of their numbers vary dramatically, (in accordance with Iraqs assimilation policies no realistic and independent census results have been revealed regarding the Iraqi Turkmen population) from 500,000 by most western sources to 4,500,000 by other sources. They have been undergoing decades of assimilation campaigns in Iraq. The Iraqi Turkmen form a distinct group within the Oghuz Turk classification, which includes the Seljuk Turks, Ottoman Turks, modern Turkish people, Azeris, and the Turkmens of Central Asia. The language spoken by the Iraqi Turkmens is South Azeri, not the Turkmen language spoken in Turkmenistan. Iraqi Security Forces

$103.56

Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) is the MultiNational ForceIraq umbrella name for military, paramilitary and civilian law enforcement entities that serve under the Government of Iraq. The armed forces are administered by the Ministry of Defence (MOD), and the Iraqi Police is administered by the Ministry of Interior (MOI). Since the toppling of the Saddam Hussein regime, the Iraqi Security Forces have been rebuilt with substantial assistance from MultiNational Security Transition Command Iraq. Since the implementation of the U.S.Iraq Status of Forces Agreement on January 1, 2009, the ISF are responsible for providing security and upholding law and order throughout Iraq de jure, with some MNFI support until late 2011. The Iraqi Army, in particular, is one of the most trusted national institutions of Iraq. While generally capable in a internal security role, ISF deficiencies have been identified in enabling functions, such as, e.g., logistics and intelligence. In highend conventional operations, ISF capabilities are currently limited by lack of fire support and air power. There are also concerns regarding corruption and sectarian agendas within the force. Social Glimpses of Modern Iraqi History (Abridged)

Social Glimpses of Modern Iraqi History (Abridged)

$130.64

An abridged translation of the first volume of the seminal work on Iraqi social history by Ali alWardi, first published in Baghdad in 1969. The first volume of Social Glimpses of Modern Iraqi History is a detailed analysis of Iraqi politics, history, culture and society between the rise of the Ottoman Empire to the demise of the Mamluks in the mid19th century. Influenced by Ibn Khaldun, William Ogburn and Robert MacIver, alWardi argues that the conflict between nomadism and urbanity, culture lag due to change, and the dual personality of the Iraqi individual, all combine to explain the nature of Iraqi society. AlWardi also argues that Iraq has always been plagued by sectarianism ever since the introduction of Islam itself, but the violence peaked during the OttomanSafavid war that raged for almost three centuries. Iraqis saw these powers not as foreign invaders, but as vanguards of their respective faiths. AlWardi focuses on the societal aspect of this turbulent era in Iraqi history. His arguments are informed by sociological theory, archival material and, most interestingly, personal experience and observation. High Performance Concrete for Bridge Decks.

High Performance Concrete for Bridge Decks.

$115.71

In recent years it has been realized that our nations bridges are deteriorating at an alarming rate. Many bridges are not reaching their expected service life. This problem can most often be traced to deterioration mechanisms that are facilitated by the ingression of water into the concrete. These mechanisms include freezethaw deterioration, alkalisilica reaction, sulfate attack and steel reinforcement corrosion. By incorporating high performance concrete (HPC) innovations into the bridge decks, many states have been able to mitigate these deteriorating effects and are even able to expect a design life in the range of 75100 years. These HPCs utilize methods such as the addition of pozzolans and slag cement as well as improved curing procedures to attain the results desired by the designer. Arkansas has already seen the completion of its first HPC bridge deck and is planning to specify further use in the near future. The purpose of this project is to formulate, test and verify several HPC mix designs to be used in bridge decks around the state as well as examine the performance of the existing HPC bridge deck. Iraqi Arabic by Jere, Wade Anastasia [Paperback]

$103.56

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Iraqi Arabic is a continuum of mutually intelligible Arabic varieties native to the Mesopotamian basin of Iraq as well as spanning into south eastern Syria and western Iran. Within Iraq itself, Iraqi Arabic in the broadest sense can be subdivided into three primary dialects, that of Baghdad, of Mosul, and of Basra. Within that, Iraq is home to a mosaic of religious communities, most notably Muslims, Christians, and more formerly, Jews, who speak their own distinctive subdialects of Iraqi Arabic. Adding to the substraum of the dialect continuum, Iraq shares its home with nonArab ethnic communities, including Kurds, Turkmen, and Assyrians, who speak their own languages and whose languages influence the Arabic of Iraq itself. Daisy AlAmir is one of the more visible figures in womens fiction in the Arab world today. This collection of stories, originally published in Lebanon as Ala Laihat alIntizar, is the most recent of her five publications. Her stories intimately reflect womens experiences in the chaotic worlds of the Lebanese civil war and the rise of Saadam Hussain as Iraqs leader. Set in Iraq, Cyprus, and Lebanon, the stories shed light on an unusual Middle East refugee experiencethat of a cultural refugee, a divorced woman who is educated, affluent, and alone.AlAmir is also a poet and novelist, whose sensual prose grows out of a long tradition of Iraqi poetry. But one also finds existential themes in her works, as AlAmir tries to balance what seems fated and what seems arbitrary in the turbulent world she inhabits. She deals with time and space in a minimalist, surreal style, while studying the disappointments of life through the subjective lens of memory. Honestly facing the absence of family and the instability of place, AlAmir gives lifelike qualities to the inanimate objects of her rapidly changing world. VoA IRAQI mass murderer Chemical Ali stands with a noose around his neck

What equivalent of a card deck should I use in my story?

Has anyone heard about the deck of cards that is used to illustrated 52 most-wanted Iraqis (I think?), and each is assigned to a suit and number (i.e Saddam Hussein was the ace of spades).

Well, I like this idea, but I don't want to use a deck of cards to illustrate the enemies in my story, and there certainly isn't 52, so does anyone have any ideas about another medium I could use to display these people on in my story?

Thanks in advance! :]

Seven deadly sins...good for enemies!
Let'e see if I can remember them....Greed, pride, sloth, lust, envy, gluttony, anger.

Then there are the seven heavenly virtues: faith, hope, charity, fortitude, justice, temperence, prudence.
