Deer Feet
Should I install a deer fence around Green Giant Arborvitae?
I just planted 85 10 feet tall green giant arbovitae as an instant hedge. I am told these plants are deer resistant. Should I install a deer fence around them as an extra precaution? I would have to do both sides of the hedge and I would need about 800 linear feet of the stuff. Also, if I should do this, can you recommend a deer fence, there are so many manufacturers out there.

Our deer here LOVE arborvitae, and eat it down to the stalks of the tree trunks.
Before I had my deer fence I went to the farmers supply and bought rolls of four ft. high fencing and just wrapped it around the tree's and plants I wanted to keep the deer out of. This works good if you put it in a wide enough circle they cannot reach over and above. Also use stakes to keep them from pushing it over. Good luck, I gave up on arborvitae, they ate them like they were cotton candy.

The Hunter - Whitetail Deer One Shot Kill At 339.9 Feet
What kind of motion detector will alert me to deer etc in my garden?
I would like to make an alarm system for my garden to detect deer and maybe smaller animals, that the dog would then shoo away. The garden is 100 feet from my house and measures 75x75 feet. What is the best type of motion detector for this application? Wired or wireless, battery or line voltage, manufacturer, the more specifics the happier I'll be!
Here is what I use.
I have a hard wired motion detector flood light made by Cooper Lighting. It covers a large area. The light has a box that you plug in, inside the house. It will sound a chime or turn on a light to let you know the light outside has been triggered. You can buy multiple outside sensors to cover an even larger area.
The deer set it off easily, as do the turkeys, however the rabbits only set it off about half of the time. Only draw back is that when it gets really windy the trees' movement will set it off.

Oh, this was my dog when I was a teenager. He’s been dead over a decade. He wasn’t put to sleep he got hit by a car or kicked by a deer and had to wear a cast for a while and then suddenly died of infection. He was a crazy dog. His parents and siblings were killed by a redneck with a shotgun who was drunk and mad about having too many puppies to deal with. He was the runt of the litter and escaped and hid in a woodchuck hole. A relative of mine found him and tried to get him out of the hole but he wouldn’t come. So she fed him for two weeks and then finally caught him off guard and captured him. She gave him to us since we wanted him and she didn’t. We named him Kirby, after Kirby Puckett, who was having an excellent year in baseball. The reason he might have been kicked by a deer was because this crazy dog would chase down deer and kill them by himself. We found him one day running circles around a bloody deer in the front yard and we should have let him finish it off because it looked ragged. But my Stepmom yelled at him and made him feel bad. He always had a stash of deer feet somewhere on the front porch. When I wanted to get him riled up all I had to do was whisper under my breath “deerfeet” and he would go berserk and bark at every window of the house. My dad hated this. Also we never really taught him to play gentle so he would play like a dog and chew up our hands. He was kind and loving though. I would have had full trust in him around an infant. He really was more a lover than a fighter but if you wanted to play he was the best dog to play with. He was one of those dogs that thought he was a lapdog even though he was a giant. I didn’t have many friends growing up, but I had Kirby, and he was always ready to party.
