Deer Rifle
Is a mosin nagant ready to shoot when u get it and is it a good deer rifle?
Now before anyone says anything of course i cleaned it very well but other than that what should i do before shooting and i got it it to use for the upcoming deer season in west virginia does anyone have one of these and use it for this i am thinking of getting the monte carlo stock for it any other ideas
Most of my Mosins needed a good cleaning before shooting. Check the bore, chamber and disassemble the bolt and remove all dried on Cosmoline before chambering a live round.
Before you even consider going hunting or buying any accessories, you need to bench test that gun and make sure you can shoot good groups at 100 and 200 yards with it. If you can't get 5 out of 5 shots in a 6 inch circle at 100 yards, forget it as a deer rifle.
You also need to get and practice with some soft point hunting ammo. Not military surplus.

what is a good deer rifle for my 13 year old son?
We hunt on our property and local ranches in central texas. I would like to get my son a rifle but not sure which one to get him. He is average build for a 13 year old.

Absoulutly great guns.
I started hunting coyotes and deer and moose with a 270. win at 13 years old and i still do. Im 15 now and i love the 270. win.
My best friend couldn't handle the recoil at that age and bought a 243. instead. He couldn't go moose hunting obvously
