Department Store Security
where can we get security sensors like the ones commonly found on the doors of shops in department stores?
my mom owns a bookshop, but over the past few months, a lot of books from the shop have been missing, and our saleskeeper recently discovered a shop-lifter. we want to improve our security measures and install security sensors/detectors. also, if you can give us a little info of how the system works/websites we can check out. thanks in advance! 
The type of system you are looking for is called an "electronic article surveillance" (EAS) system. The two major manufacturers of these systems in the United States are Sensormatic and Checkpoint.

Why not use really small security cameras?
Why don't department stores and pharmacies use really small security cameras in order to catch theft instead of larger and more easily visible ones? This will increase their chances of catching this activity. And by smaller i mean really small as in thumb size and hidden in different places.
Large, visible cameras are a deterrent to people even thinking about stealing.
See, it's better to reduce the incidences of stealing than to increase the capture rate.
