Can your employer demand that you can't wear your wedding/engagement/promise ring because of a metal detector?
They installed a new metal detector turn slide and want to make it a faster process, so we aren't allowed to bring in ANYTHING, no belts, jewelry (earrings, bracelets, necklaces, rings), watches, chap stick, pens, etc. Isn't it illegal for them to make you take off your wedding ring?
After seeing the damage that can happen to a finger when a ring gets caught I will never wear one. I also don't allow any of my employees to wear rings at work for safety reasons. If you have ever seen a finger stripped down to bones and tendons you understand why. In your situation a metal detector sensitive enough to be tripped by something that small seems like overkill. What about metal eyelets in your shoes, or zippers, or metal frame eyeglasses? Are they allowed?
