Door Rack
Can I put a 12 foot kayak on the roof of a 2003 Hyundai Accent 2 door hatchback without foam blocks or rack?
I will be driving about 20 miles though towns so speed will not be too high. I have rope. Should i just stuff it into the back? Tie the hatch down, fold the seat forward. I can put the front passenger seat forward too.
Or just buy the blocks and pick it up another day?
If you do this without a rack or foam blocks, you are probably going to scratch up and dent you roof.
Racks are by far the best way to go. They let you load the boat faster and secure it better.
Foam blocks work, but you have to be careful not to dent your roof.
I would not do this because it is going to be expensive to fix your car:
Roll two towels and use lots of rubber bands to secure them into rolls. The rolls would be 2' long x 3" diameter. Then use the towels like foam blocks.
If the wind pushes the towel rolls out from under the boat you are not going to have a good day. The kayak will either fall out behind you and damage another car or hurt someone else, or slide down your windshield onto your hood.
Did I mention that this is a really bad idea?
Find a local kayak club. Take a lesson. Make some other paddling friends. You will have more fun and go places that you never knew were there.
Someday you might flip in the middle of a lake and need to know how to get back in!

Over the Door Food Storage Rack at Stacks and Stacks
Telescoping Over-the-door Clothes Drying Rack?
A year or so back I bought one of those clothes drying racks that you hang over your door (NOT the wall-mount kind). You can then pull out the 7 or 8 rungs where you can hang your wet clothes to dry. For the life of me, I can't remember where I got it. Any ideas?
