Is the desiccant you find in food packages and some electronics cases good for storing ammo?
I have about 1500 rounds of 7.62x39 wolf mc that i have put into a ammo can. I know the ammo cans work well but i'm not sure how long i will keep them stored. I am going to keep them inside the house but i live in a pretty humid part of the country(gulf coast). Just wonder what some of your thoughts are about the packages from food/electronics. I have about 4 packs that came out of a brand new telephone box.
Yes they will work. But you will need quite a few of them, and you may need to reactivate them. This is not hard to do. just heat them enough to evaporate the moisture that they may have absorbed. Then they will do the trick.

Yes, they are the same, and I save and use them too. Here is the best way to do it: first in an oven set on low, place several of the packets on a cookie sheet (I just use an old pie plate because I don't want to use a utensil we use for cooking) and let them sit in the lowest part of the oven for 1/2 hr. This removes any moisture they may have already absorbed. Don't use the little ones that are in plastic that come in food stuffs. place you ammo in a good airtight container, like a military ammo can, make sure it will hold an air tight seal, add at least 3-5 of the smaller desiccant packs to each can, seal, and leave closed until you need it. If you open a can, just use the oven to re dry the desiccant and you can re use them over and over.
