EMT, EMS Paramedic Question?
I am 24 years old. I was laid off from work as a police officer and thinking about being an EMT. I am attending a EMT 4 week course in CA. Will the class be as hard as the police academy was? Will it be time consuming and competitive to get a job as it is to become a police officer? What is the starting salary for an EMT-B? Can I survive on the starting salary? What else can I do besides work in an Ambulance? Is there any jobs inside hospitals with an EMT-B certification?
it no where near as intense--there is not the physical training compoanant either....
in my state hospitals do hire EMTS as ER techs
there are many transport companies that specialize in non emergency (home/hospital or between facilities) that are constantly hiring..
the pay isn't great--might be lucky to start about $18k/year--but its better than no income
UPS pays better--starts low--but has rapid raises--my brotehr in law supported a family of 5 in a 4 bedroom house on his UPS salary

does anyone know the assessment of the urinary system as a EMT?
I am doing a project for my high school EMS class. I need to know how to check for urinary problems when an EMT arrives on the scene. I have looked all over and cannot find anything to help me. Can anyone help me?
There really is no way of checking for any urinary problems in a patient as an EMT. If the patient is aware of what is going on, you can ask questions that pertain to the situation, you can also ask about past as well as present medical history.
The abdominal area can be palpated to check for swelling and or distention. I have been an EMT for about ten years and have never had to access urinary problems in a medical patient. A trauma patient will present most often with obvious problems.

It depends on whether it's a private ambulance company or if it's fire dept. based. If it's fire dept. based then that's a no-no, but if it's a private ambulance company then it depends on whether or not the company owner allows it.
