Enforcement Emt
How can i prepare for a carrier in law enforcement?
I am 19 and am currently studding criminal justice in college. I wanted to know what types of extra stuff i could be doing to make me a better applicant for a position on the state or federal level. I have an FID (i live in ma) and go to the gym often. Would getting EMT certified help me be more likely to get a job as a police officer? any suggestions?
Yes, getting your EMT certification will be very helpful, most law enforcement agencies require that. Also, stay in school and eventually get your masters degree in CJ. However at the age of 19 if will be difficult for you to get a position. Once you turn 21 you can legally carry a handgun, so getting your concealed weapons license is also important.
Also stay in shape and be willing to start working at a local law enforcement level, no one just joins the FBI right out of college, you need to have some local law enforcement experience on your resume.

How To Become a Police Officer?
I just graduated from High School a little over a month ago. I am in college at this point in time, and I am taking an EMT Basic course. I discovered that I want to pursue a career in Law Enforcement. I need to know how to get information on how to become a police officer. Possibly in the future in K9 unit. Any body who has an input PLEASE HELP! I am having a lot of trouble. Im planning on going to my local police station later this week, but want some information before going in.
Requirements and how you become a police officer vary depending the state and the department. One of the best things that you can do is to earn a college degree. As far as education goes, some police departments only require their officers to have a high school diploma or GED. Some police departments require their officers to have a two year degree or equivalent. Some police departments require their officers to have a four year degree or equivalent. Even if a particular department does not require a degree, you will have a better chance of getting hired if you have one. Some departments pay their officers more if they have a degree. Having a degree could also benefit you when trying to get promoted after you become a police officer. Choose a major that interests you and that would be useful for police work. Criminal justice, psychology, forensic science, a foreign language, accounting, and computer science are some good examples. While in college, learn as much as you can, and earn the highest GPA that you can. Be a good person, maintain a good reputation, and don't do anything that you would not want a background investigator to find out about. There are many things that you can do to increase your chances of becoming a police officer.
