Extra Fire Protection
Why do they Patent building frame connectors?
They never work, buildings still fail in storms, floods, fires, collisions, and seismic events; they don't prevent lawsuits from victims of the failed buildings, and they don't help the buildiers, designers, regulators, and insurers and real estate industries with their protections from getting sued or in protecting their registrations, warrantees, and guarantees to their Customers.
What are the big issues on these things? I wouldn't have one in my home. Every Carpenter I've talked to over 40 years say the extra nails/fasteners offset these connector's added structural values and more times than not, DECREASE the structural values of the frames and building components they attach to.
Are these doohickeys worth all the efforts in protecting them?
The only reason to patent any invention is to obtain the ability to exclude others from being able to practice it. A patent does not give me the exclusive right to practice an invention, it gives me the right to stop OTHERS from practicing it.
In the case of building frame connectors, the only reason that the inventor would patent them is because he or she is convinced that the product is new (no one else has made them yet) and non-obvious (that's a legal determination) and that either using them will provide a significant business advantage to him or her OR the invention will bring big bucks in licensing or selling the patent to another company.
A product being patented does not mean that it is good or that it works as intended. On a side note, if you determine that the product fails to conform to the claims in the patent, there are legal steps you can take to invalidate the patent. Understand, however, that it is an extremely expensive and technical process.

How long can I leave handgun ammo in my personal protection weapon and still expect it to fire?
How long do I have before I change out the ammo in my carry gun. I always change around the mag ammo and the one in the snout because I know the lubricants have been know to cause a round to not fire, and i also switch out the ammo in my gun and the extra rounds in the box every two weeks, but then again it goes back in the gun 2 weeks later. I fire remmington gold sabre 9mm 124 grain and whinchester white box personal protection 180 grain 40 S&W, all hollowpoints
i just noticed yesterday when i came back from the range they didn't look clean anymore, the brass wasn't shiny, thats why i'm asking and i do inspect the rounds before i load them.
even if it turns green...years.
Keep the oil away from the primer and modern ammo should last just about forever.
For what it costs... I'd buy a box of duty ammo and shoot those up and replace my carry rounds every year or so.
