Filter Canister
What would be the best canister filter for my 70 gallon tank?
I have turtles in the tank now, I heard canister filters are great. My turtles are about 6-8 months and maybe 3-4 inches. I have a 70 gallon tank and 2 submersiable filters. I want to replace the two filters with one big one. Do canisters work really good, should I get one and which one is the best? I will have the water 3/4's of the way full will that make a difference?

You can always use a Fluval which is the most commonly used but there is another type called a Cascade which works just as well if not better and costs a lot less.

Opinions on Marineland Canister filter (100g) - getting ready to upgrade?
Hello - I currently have a 26 gallon tank that I am upgrading to a 90 gallon. In my 26 gallon I have a Penguin bio-wheel filter that I am very happy with. It was suggested that a larger bio-wheel filter for my new 90 gallon aquarium would not be as effective as a Marineland Canister filter. I am not familiar with this type of filter, so please give your opinion on it - good or bad. Thank you in advance.

they can be found at a bargain sometimes. but is it?
Eheim is king but really expensive. but is it?
The "classic ehiem" is still around (all i really use) as a primary filter and arguable still the best filter ever made. They been known to purr for 10 years problem free.
they also have a slow flow (notice the lower gph"s) they create a nice soothing bottom current verses a rush.
the key is bio-capacity
Here's the difference in a nutshell.
The marine C-360 needs 360 gph to clean an average stocked 100 gallon tank. Thats some major flow but for the bacteria to feed it's needed. Think of the water speed going threw the tank. For the filter to work the water has to fly.

The Eheim classic 2217 can clean an average stocked 160 gallon tank with 264 gph. It's bio capacity is so over the top and penetrating it is just so effcient and effective.
The flow is smooth and gentle sways leaves on plants both real and fake.
The Eheim is 1.6 gallon volume, the marineland 3.4, pretty well double so it takes the 3.4 gallons of crappy marineland media to do 100 gallons and it takes the eheim 1.6 gallons to do 160 gallons.
Hmmmm might be a difference in media quality. An Eheim is about 65-70% bio where marineland is one tray maybe 2 trays. Plus you never run carbon in a canister. What a pain.
Keep the fine filter floss out of canisters aswell and if you run an average or lower fish load you will be doing about 10 mins maintenance maybe every 2-3 months.

Oh ya..
the ehiem splintered glass bio media is arguable the best bacteria bed medium on the planet for aquariums.
