Anyone familiar with mounting a Flat panel LCD with hidden A/V cables, satelitte box, DVD in closet?
Okay, so my husband and I have finally decided to take the plunge. We have decided on the LCD samsung 46in. The only thing is I dont want any wires or boxes showing at all. All I want my wall is my flat panel, thats it. So, we are debating to pay someone 600 dollars or try to do it ourself. My husband is somewhat handy and we have a friend that used to work for charter cable co. that is good at running and fishing wires. My husband has put in a few recessed outelts before so I think we can do it. Plus we have a few pretty in depth how to manuals. My question is what do I need. I know a mount and wires I know I will need Heavy duty wires and cables what kind? What else? I want a flat panel LCD along with HD DVR satelitte and most likely a bluray DVD or something with HD. I have heard to run into crawl space for one then attic for the other. Any suggestions? I have heard of buying this recessed receptacle that has a surge protector in it Wise choice? Any advice or suggestions?

First, use HDMI cabling for the Cable box and DVR-to-TV connections...

GET the HDMI 1.3a cables for highest bandwidth...
You don't want HEAVY wires, they break the HDMI connectors off -- you want LIGHT wires with Version 1.3a BANDWIDTH...
Next, Get a good surge suppressor with an Insurance policy that covers about $5000 if the suppressor doesn't save your TV set from damage....
Now comes the FUN part....Hiding everything.
When you mount your TV (do this first) you will need to cut a
4 by 6 (minimum) rectangle of drywall out behind your TV set to run the HDMI cable and the power cord.....
To truly Hide the equipment, you may want to go to the opposite side of that wall and hopefully find yourself in a Bedroom closet....HOPEFULLY.
In there you can connect the power suppressor, DVD and Cable box and just connect an Infrared Blaster to both....
The Blaster allows you to put a TINY little UNSEEN reciever in your room so you never see the big ugly DVD or cable boxes.....
And yes, your DVD library goes in that other room.....
The Alternative is to house your cable and DVD boxes and DVD library in an attractive cabinet BELOW your TV set and just cut another 4 x 6 inch rectangle out behind that cabinet....
And lumberyards have this wonderful bracket that allows you to re-install the drywall rectangles that you cut out, so save them if you like to redecorate on a regular basis...I've seen them on This Old House®

How do I locate the wires for my flat ceiling and install downlighters?
I have recently moved into a flat, and live between two other flats so one above and one below. The floor is definitely concrete so I assume the ceiling is also, its more difficult due to the appalling arttexting to tell. The current light is a cheap ikea 4 bulb halogen set that makes the room very dark I wish to replace this with downlighters. My question is if anyone could be so kind to help is?
How do I locate the wires in the ceiling, I can’t possibly imagine the wires to be embedded in the concrete ceiling, that would mean some special forward planning by the builders (the flat is 11years old)?
Secondly do I need to build a false ceiling for halogen lights or is it better or more cost effective to buy these pod down lighters, similar to cabinets ones which do NOT recess into the ceiling?
Thirdly would it be a better option to get LED ones? although more expensive and I assume I would need more to produce the same amount of light.
You will need a false ceiling, which will also give you the added bonus of hiding the artexing.
