Fox Gun Gun
what would be the best gun to use for fox hunin?
I've done an edit after reading some of the posts.
I am a long time Alaskan hunter and trapper.
Many people try to take fox with a 22 rimfire - 22's are usually handy. I have seen fox hit square on with 22 CCI Stingers and shrug it off - run for about a mile - before it died. This is not good. For this reason a 22 rimfire is just unreliable.
I have used a 22 Hornet for many, many years. Works great on fox, coyote and wolf. I have never needed a secon shot - planted them. The Hornet does not much damge at all the pelt - on fox you get an exit hole 50% of the time. On coyote and wolf you only have an entrance.
I have seen fox taken with a 223 Remington and 243 Win - the animals were instantly killed, but, nothing useful ramained of the hide.
Another caliber to consider that is better than a 22 rimfire - the .17HMR would be ideal!!
Bottom line - the 22 rimfire just isn't enough. The 223 Remington is way too much. Something with similar properties of a 22 Hornet or .17HMR is just right.

Looking for a book: belt, fox, woman, boy, transform, gun.?
My boyfriend is looking for a book he read as a child. It was likely published before 1992. It is about a woman who has a belt that transforms her into a fox when she wears it. A boy gets ahold of this belt and is stuck in fox form, going for the chicken coop until a male is able to get it off of him.
It may be a story in a book, or it may be the whole book. He's pretty sure he read it before he was 10, so he would have gotten it at his school's library. He *thinks* these details are correct.
I've been looking, and the closest I can get is a German story of a schoolteacher who puts on a belt and when it's shot off of him the place is named "Fox Hill". This is not the story.
Sounds like some author was on Acid man....
