from a crime scene, what reason would lead to the recovery of a partial fingerprint?
apart from some one trying to wipe it off
I mean, why do we find partial fingerprints, rather than full ones?
I'm not a forensic criminologist, but I can think of some possibilities.
First, imagine turning a standard round door handle. Not all of your finger pad is touching the handle, only the side (unless you open doors differently than I do). Also, even the fingers than are most fully touching the handle will be partly smudged because the handle will move a bit relative to your hand.
Now consider a door that has a latch which has to be pushed down (often used on front doors). In this case, the fingers wrap around the entire handle and are more likely to be in contact with your own hand than the actual door. The most likely print is from the thumb on the top latch, but the likelihood is that only part of the thumb will actually be on the latch when the door is opened.
Next, imagine lifting a wine glass. Depending on how delicately it is lifted, one may use only finger tips, thus only partial finger prints.
Another reason for partial fingerprints could be a lack of oil on the fingertip when the finger comes into contact with a surface. I don't know how common this would be, but I can see how touching something after washing one's hands might not produce a lasting fingerprint.
Generally, I'd suspect that partial finger prints would be more common than full ones, owing to the fact that people would rarely be careful enough to diligently roll their finger over a surface without shifting in any way (thereby smudging it). Further, someone who is committing a crime is unlikely to ensure that their finger has enough oil or other substance on it to ensure a good print.

If the DNA fingerprint of a suspect does not match a blood sample from a crime scene, what can u conclude?
a. the suspect was never at the crime scene
b. the suspect may have been at the crime scene,because DNA fingerprinting has a large error rate.
c. the blood sample to come from another person,but the suspect may still have been there.
d. the blood sample was probably degraded over time.
e. you cannont get DNA fingerprint from a blood sample.

I am a gun owner and a former member of the NRA. I am a former member because of the NRA’s irresponsible attitude toward reasonable laws on gun ownership.
Thanks for your comments. It is a shame that this young man is so bitter towards a man who has probably never met him, nor harmed him in any way. I am well aware that this type of bigotry still exists in pockets of the US and it is really unfortunate because we all want the same things out of life, have the same emotions and basically the same people, just from different ethnicities. I hope that he will learn a valuable lesson from this crime. Thanks for the feedback.
