Handgun with no license, what will happen if cop discovers it?
I am the proud owner of a handgun but I do not have a license for it. It's locked in lower front seat compartment with combination and key option.
I have a 2nd amendment right to own a gun and that right shall not be infringed so I don't see the need for a license.
What if I get pulled over and the cop tries to take my gun away? Do I have a right to defend my gun?
No, you do not have a right to defend your gun.
The 2nd Amendment protects the rights to own guns. However, it does nothing for illegally concealing the weapon inside your vehicle.
If you are caught with that gun in your vehicle by an officer, you will be charged with carrying a concealed firearm. The seriousness varies from state to state, but the charge is fairly similar between them all.
A concealed weapons permit will take care of any issue you may have here. Contact your local circuit court clerks office or do a search for what you need to do to obtain one.
