Gun Digest

If a cop kills an innocent person because they thought they were a criminal is that murder (from a legal view)?
Example:
I read an article in Readers Digest about cops mistaking addresses and receiving bad tips and invading the wrong houses, in one instance a swat team kicked in the door of an elderly woman because they received faulty intel that it was a known drug dealers house, the woman naturally assumed they were intruders and fired a gun at them, they shot her 33 times, she was perfectly within her rights to defend herself and her property so would the cops be charged with murder? (The article didn't follow up on what happened afterwords).
SgtShamey: but they did not have the right to enter her house, if a bugler breaks into my house and I fire at him, does he have the right to fire back (seriously I want to know?)
The expression is "lawful but awful." The investigating officer believed the dealer lived there and presented his case to the judge, the judge issued the warrant and authorized it for no knock service (if I'm thinking of the same event), and the SWAT team executed the warrant. The woman was well within her rights to defend her home so had she survived, she likely wouldn't have faced charges. The officers involved also are not criminally liable because they were authorized to enter the residence by a judge and reasonably feared for their lives. There may be some civil liability to the investigating officer who sought the warrant if there was any falsification on the affidavit for the warrant or if he/she made a gross error in judgment.

Yeah, I know very well the interest in U.S. WW2 firearms, and the “Saving Private Ryan/Band of Brothers” craze that swept through. But for $600-$700, I can go to Camp Perry tomorrow (well within my driving distance) and get a nice functional Garand. It won’t be pretty, it won’t have “Provenance” that Patton used it during the Bulge, it’ll be what it is : A nice weapon system that can stop something Dangerous from hurting you and yours. Same with the old .45s. And that attitude is what happened with the Housing Market: People are taking something useful and functional and putting it on to a Pedestal, trying to make it into something it’s not; i.e. a Cash Generator.
