Gun Jewelry Security Sticky situation... My 30 yo brother broke in and stole goods from my mother. He then took those goods to a?
pawn shop. My brother has a serious drug problem. I have advised my mother to a least file a police report to have it documented the items were stolen (items like guns, jewelry), and install a security system. My thoughts are he has been allowed to do what he has been doing and now we have the proof and he needs to be stopped and one way of doing that is filing a police report, then it is out of my mothers hands. My mom is reluctant to file the report.
What would you do? What is a good way to handle the situation?
By not filing the police report, your mom is being an enabler. If she won't file the police report, then you should. You know that he stole guns which is a huge deal. Get the locks changed and set up a time for a home security specialist to stop by and give your mom a presentation on their system. Sit your mom down and tell her that your brother is sick and not himself, and that she needs to protect herself from him since he isn't in his right mind and would possibly hurt her if he had to. Go to an al-anon meeting and find a group of people that are going through the same thing, and get yourself a support system. Good luck.
