A-Zoom Snap Caps, hard primer?
Hello, I'm wondering if my Snap Caps are faulty. Mine is the CNC machined one that's anodized in a dark grape purple color type (not spring loaded type). I'm concerned the fake primer material is too "hard".
I can't make any marks with my finger nails; the firing pin only made a tiny impression. I'm questioning whether its safe to dry fire my gun with these snap caps. My gun is new, and after dry firing the snap caps a few times, I noticed the firing pin has lost its parkerization and is now exposed bare metal.
Your Snap Caps are fine. The material is harder than primer metal. It has to be. If your firing pin dented the snap cap as much as a primer, then there would be nothing to catch the hammer/firing pin. You would be back to dry firing on empty chambers.
The idea behind the snap cap is to prevent the hammer from hitting the frame, by giving the firing pin something to land against.
The loss of parkerization on the end of the firing pin is normal and would occur if you were actually shooting bullets. Normal cleaning and lubrication of the gun will prevent any rust on the pin.

Dry-firing...will it damage my SIG?
A good friend of mine who is well-trained and an excellent shot recommends practicing a little of my trigger technique at home, of course being extremely careful to be sure there is no ammo even in the same room as the gun, never pointing the gun anywhere a bullet would do damage if it fired, making sure I never even touch the gun after even a single drink, etc, etc.....
....my question comes to whether or not I should invest in snap-caps to prevent any damage to the pistol. The pistol in question is a SIG P225 9mm, which as of now is in near-new condition.
My reticence for just going and spending the couple o' bucks on the snap-caps is simply one of safety. I feel a little safer, given the notion of actually and intentionally pulling the trigger on the gun while not in a range, having NOTHING in or near the gun when practicing....
Will dry-firing the pistol a zillion and a half times damage it at all?
dry firing will in no way harm your gun
In my opinion snap caps and especially spent rounds are not a good idea and could even be considered a bad and dangerous idea
We are creatures of habit
Anf the habit of habitually and obsessively checking that a gun is unloaded should include bo the visual and tactile references
You should get into the habit of seeing and feeling an empty chamber
If you get into the habit of seeing and feeling a loaded chamber you will eventually screw up
