Gun Guard Safe
What's the best way to clean the stainless steel slide and the gun metal gray frame on a handgun?
I know you could probably buy some products in gun shops that will shine up stainless steel pistols, but I'm low on funds and I'm pretty sure there is a safe substitute laying around the house. I don't want to ruin it, so I want to know what to use rather than testing out household solvents and soaps.
If you mean clean from handling, a soft cotton cloth (old flannel shirt or the like) with a little oil (machine, motor, or gun oil all work good).
If you mean after firing it, regular gun cleaning solvent isn't too expensive otherwise if you have some automatic transmission fluid, nail polish remover (acetone), paint thinner and kerosene laying around you could mix up some "Ed's Red", its cheap and works well. Just typing "Ed's Red" into the yahoo search engine will get you the recipe.
