Is it too dangerous to hike alone in the Appalachian Mountains?
In August I'm going to Shenandoah National Park in Virginia and I plan on hiking part of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail but I’m having second thoughts now because I was reading about Shenandoah and there’s been a lot of murders on the trail, including a really nasty one in the late 90’s that got a lot of media attention. It suggest to have a hiking partner on the website but none of my friends can come because they’re working and it’s my only week off this summer. I would feel safer if I could bring a gun, but Department of the Interior doesn’t allow guns in any of the parks … so much for the second amendment *rolls eyes*
I really want to go because I haven't been on a vacation in a long time and I love nature, but I don't want to feel scared. Is it too dangerous to go alone?
I lived in Virginia for 9 years, and I hiked in Shenandoah several times by myself, but that was before my sister told me about the murders that happened. (I was tyring to get all the waterfalls hikes done.) After that, I tried to hike with a friend or on extremely popular trails where you're never really alone, anyway, which there are plenty of in Shenandoah. My sister, a former thru-hike of the AT, lives near Shenandoah and may be interested in a hiking buddy or might know of some hiking web sites where you can get in touch with fellow hikers. 5 Tips to Select a Fire Proof Gun Safe
In today’s modern world, more and more people own guns. Besides avid hunters and gun collectors, more people are purchasing them for a security measure in their own home. But with children about, guns need to be kept secure. Not only should guns be kept secure from tragic accidents and unauthorized use, but they should also be kept safe from damage from such sources as fire, after all, they are an investment. A fire proof gun safe is essential for any gun owner. Here are five questions to ask yourself before purchasing a safe.
1. Besides guns, what else do I want to store in my fire proof gun safe?
First you have to consider what type of fire arms you have (hunting rifles, shotguns, pistols), how many, besides other items you want to store in your safe.
