Gun Safe Yukon
How safe is rural Canada?
I apologise for being extremely ignorant, but I am thinking of moving to Canada, in particular Yukon or rural British Columbia, and I was wondering in general about how safe these places are perceived to be. I'm a girl and I'd be living on my own, and because I come from a country with basically no guns, I'm kind of paranoid through lack of experience! Again, forgive me for sounding like an idiot; Canada looks and sounds amazing and that's why I want to move there, but I'm curious as to how safe its more remote locations are?
I live by myself in a rural area in BC, have done a lot of camping and travelling through BC on my own and I'd say it's safe. I have a dog, maybe that helps, but I can't think of anything that made me feel unsafe. I think it's more a matter of picking the right people to hang out with and taking basic precautions like you do everywhere. Guns barely come into it. Very few Canadians have guns unless they hunt or are spending time in areas where an encounter with dangerous wildlife is possible. Last time I saw a gun of any kind was about 1987.
