Handgun Pistol Rack

Springfield 1911 single action, what causes the slide rack mechanism?
i've been asking a lot about guns recently, i know, i know.
Bottom line is i'm looking for a good first gun, Yes safety is a primary concern, but I will not have any bullets in the house EVER. The gun will be for target/training/hobby purposes only.
So anyway, since the 1911 is single action and requires the hammer to be cocked, then what causes the slide to rack after each fired round? I once thought the 1911 had to be manually cocked after each discharge, but after watching videos, it seems that there is a spring effect/gravity/inertia that is racking the slide just like a double action.
So I know single action does one thing, trigger pull, double action lifts hammer, and slams hammer, well then how does a single action handgun like a 1911 become a semi-auto if all the trigger does is single action? It must be the energy from the round which causes the slide back and picks up another round, essentially doing what a DA pistol does, right?
for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. The power generated by the rapid expansion of gases from the burning powder forces the bullet in one direction, and forces the slide back in the opposite direction. As the slide moves back it does several things, including forcing the hammer back to the full rearward position, the extractor which is contained in the slide draws the empty shell out of the chamber were it strikes the ejector, which forces out of the extractor claw and provides energy to eject it. As the slide is driven back forward by the recoil spring, it pushes against the base of the next cartridge in the magazine which then slides up the feed ramp and into the chamber as the slide returns to battery (fully closed and locked). other things also take place, but this should cover the questions you asked.

Racking handgun slide?
I have difficulty racking the slide on 9x18 P-64 Polish pistol. Although I really enjoy shooting it, my hand and forearms are not strong enough to rack the slide. I know about pop-up barrels. Are there other small concealable semi-autos with easy to rack slides?
Those small military pistol are stiff
Go to Makarov, com a see it they have a spring kit for your gun
It should be around $10
I did this with a PA 63 and it completely changed the gun
Also
Instead of trying to pull the slide back try pushing the gun forward
Take and overhand grip on the slide and shove the gun forward instead of the two finger grip on the slide and pulling the slide back
It makes a huge difference
Unless your arthritis is much worse than mine you should be able to rack the slide that way
