What gauge wire do I need to run 100 ft from my house to garage. 200a service in house and 100a in garage?
I am hooking up electricity in my garage about 100 ft from the house. I have 200 amp service in the house and want 100 amp service in the garage. I am just wondering how heavy gauge wire I need to run for my underground
Have done this a number of times in business. Without bothering you with too many details, you would be fine with the following: Consider 1 1/2 PVC conduit run. Code is 24 inches deep. Code exception 6 inches deep if you cover conduit with at least 2 inches of concrete. Pouring some cheap dry mix concrete bags on top of PVC keeps it simple.
2 conductors must be #2 AL thwn (any color except green or white) One white #4 AL for the neutral, or identify wire with white tape. Neutral can be 2 sizes smaller. Then one #6AL for the ground. Identify wire with green tape. Due to distance and AL wire, consider using only a 60 amp 2 pole breaker. If you wish to use a 100 amp breaker, then these conductors will have to be copper. Can you afford this with the price of copper? Good luck.

When do you use heavy vs light gauge plectrums?
I play around with rhythm on a steel string acoustic and when I started out, I bought medium gauge picks. I'm used to them now and thought I'd try out heavier and lighter picks.
So, is pick gauge just a matter of personal preference and comfort, or does it actually impact on your sound?
i used to swear by the .75 dunlops with the raised dots, till i finally realized that the dots contributed a ton to giving me arm cramps during a show. i use whatever i have now as long as it doesn't have raised dots or "grippy" stuff. Softer / thinner picks will give less attack and a more rounded high end. It's also difficult to pick really fast with a thinner pick.
