Home Safe Lock I need to get a home safe to safely lock up very sensitive documents which is the safest?
I live roommates and I need to keep very sensitive documents in my apartment so I need a safe and was wondering what type of safe I would need
If you really want to protect your documents, I would consider a safety deposit box at a local bank. You rent them by the year, and around here you can get one that is about 6x6 and about 18 inches deep for somewhere in the range of 25-35 dollars a year. These boxes would protect the document from both fire and theft. When you deal with small home safes, you have to consider that most could be picked up easily and carried off. If you get one large enough that it couldn't, then you are talking about it being heavy enough to require special delivery men to set it up. If you rent, the land lord might not like you having such weight in the apartment either. We have a small safe that my son always kept his stuff in. Worked on combination, but only weighed about 15 lbs. We have a large safe that came from a jewelry store that was going out of business. It required a special lift to set it in the basement, and we probably won't ever move it. This safe is good for guns and things that you may use but don't want exposed to other people. All of the paper documents are in the bank in a safety deposit box, (lot box). Some branch banks have the boxes to offer to make it convenient for quick stops on a frequent schedule.

Home Safes - Why You Should Have One
Home safes in today's world are quickly becoming a basic necessity. They are no longer something that only the rich can afford. There are a wide variety of models available, with a wide price range, so that just about everyone can have one. Obviously, there are different safes for different needs, and that works out to the consumer's advantage. The safe I personally use the most is also probably the least expensive one I own. I use it for basic fire protection and portability. So let's take a look at what some of the basic needs might be and what sorts of options are available to help take care of your needs.
The first thing that comes to mind is protection from fire. No safe is absolutely fire proof. However, you can purchase fairly priced home safes that give a high level of protection from sustained heat. These safes can at least secure your important documents from catastrophic loss in the case of a fire for a sufficient amount of time to allow emergency personnel to respond to the fire and put it out. One of these is certainly better than not having a safe at all. And it goes without saying that you will have a higher level of peace of mind with one than without one.
The second reason many people purchase and use home safes is for protection from theft. We are all susceptible to that unfortunate eventuality and need to take appropriate precautions to do what we can to safeguard against it. Proper locks on windows and doors are a basic first step.
