How to set up a simple home network? Please help!?

I currently have two computers hooked up on my network and a Canon MP460 printer (all-in-one). Basic setup with both computers wired to the Netgear WGR614 v.5 wireless router. I also have a wireless card, but I am not using that currently. I just want to set up a safe and working home network and if I can do the same with the printer. I would really like some help with this and all proper information will be greatly appreciated! THANK YOU!!
Just for clarity this should also enable me to access each computer's files from the other computer. Thanks again!
I am running windows XP on both computers which are Dells.

Are all of your computers on the same work group name. You can see if this is true by going into My Computer then My network connection and then view computers in my work group. If you don't see them then you have to go into control panel and system. There should be a tab for computer name and that is where you can change the work group name. You cn then add the printer as a network printer

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A home network or home area network (HAN) is a residential local area network. It is used for communication between digital devices typically deployed in the home, usually a small number of personal computers and accessories, such as printers and mobile computing devices. An important function is the sharing of Internet access, often a broadband service through a cable tv or Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) provider. Additionally, a home server may be added for increased functionality. Here's Some Valuable Tips For Your Network Marketing Home Business

How do I ensure security on my home network?

I have 5 different PCs in my house, all connected wirelessly to my SMC router. What are some things I can do to ensure that no one nearby "hijacks" my wireless internet. And keep it relatively safe from hackers on the internet.

Here are some basic steps to harden your network:

1.Disable wireless access to your router's admin pages. Leave admin access for wired machines only. You don't have to keep one machine ON a wire, just leave a wire hanging from the router and connect to it when you need access to the admin pages. Note: this has no effect on wireless Web access, just router admin.
2.Turn off the SSID beacon (broadcasting). You're not running a WiFi hotspot; all your computers should know the network name.
3.Change the SSID (network name) from the factory default so hackers can’t guess it.
4.Turn on encryption: WEP (for 802.11B/G networks) or WPA (for pure 802.11G networks).
5.Change the router administrator password.
6.Reduce the number of DHCP (automatic IP addressing) addresses in the router to the number of computers you have and no more.
7. Restrict access to the router to only the MAC (Network Interface Card hardware addresses) you want.

Hope that helps.
