Computer virus related question?
I have just purchased a Dell Inspiron 545 desktop computer but unfortunately I realized after I had placed the order on the telephone that I had forgotten to include antivirus software with the new computer. So I will have to purchase this software over the counter. I would like your opinion on this antivirus software :

Also will my computer be safe and secure to use (i.e. no viruses etc.) until I can get to the shop to buy the software. My opinion on this is that provided I do not connect to the internet then there is no chance of a problem. Is this a correct assumption ?
It is not an entirely, 100% correct assumption. If you copy any software from disks like CD's or DVD's that you have burned or someone else has burned, and it just so happens there was a virus or malware on those disks, you can get infected. That is about the only way other than connecting to the net.
I consider a European antivirus software to be SUPERIOR to the Norton Suite. Norton tends to bog the computer down, it runs slow, has a slow scanner, and basically, once it is on your computer, it is nearly impossible to get it OFF.
There is a very good auditing service called VIRUSBULLETIN. They audit all the main security packages out there, and NOD32 is considered "the" best antivirus program around. The place to get it is on the net (download a trial copy to get you started)...you will have to uninstall the trial eventually, once you buy the suite. It's called ESET Smart Security 4. Virusbulletin has consistently rated this antivirus engine to be the best. I switched to ESET two years ago and haven't had one single problem. It runs in the background without hogging system resources OR taking over my computer OR slowing my computer down.
