I usually use Trend Micro but a friend said to download Avast the free home edition. I don't mind paying for security but find it rather confusing with all that is available. What is the best to use? and is the free downloads really safe. Please advise.

i live in an area where crime is high i would like to make my home safe to live in and would like to secure it are there any goverment grants to help me do this as iam unable afford the cost of doing so myself (oap) and iam worried about my safety
