What is the average pay for selling fine jewelry in a department store?

Depending on where you live it can range from $8/hr-$11/hr. Base pay is not that great, but its better compare to other retail stores in the mall because selling fine jewelry requires a better knowledge of products, etc. Commission range anywhere from 1 percent to up to 20 percent depending on your position and most of the time you only make commission after you've reached your "sales quota", which is where the big catch is. The jewelry industry isn't doing so well these days so if you're looking to make most of your money in commissions, research the company first (if it's a public company it should be readily available online) to see how well they are doing.

Rapaport, October 21, 2009: Diamond Jewelry Sell Big at Christie's and Sotheby's

What is the best way to go from sales floor to a commissioned position in another department?

I have 16 years of retail experience but have been unable to secure a commissioned position in a department store. Most commissioned positions are in shoes and jewelry ( I have no experience in either). I just can't seem to make it into management either. Would taking Six Sigma courses help with management or commissioned positions?

Commission's job in retail are very competitive you have to be very aggressive but remember to keep the customer as your focus so maybe you aren't coming of as service oriented to the employers so work on your clientele start a book of all you people and follow up with them treat your job like you own the company classes wont hurt it will show the company that you really want to grow N ORDSTROM SAKS AND NEIMAN MARCUS ALL ARE commissioned.

  1. The increased prices at the grocery store are being felt. I went grocery shopping yesterday and saw them for myself. I live in Michigan and we still require price tags on everything. When things have two or three price tags you can bet it is not because the price decreased. I also work at a retail store part time (having been laid off from a good paying job 2 years ago) and they are marking up everything in the jewelry department, intimates area, all towels and sheets. Apparently, cotton prices have increased due to hoarding of cotton in China. This increase is also due to the commodities market and the derivatives that congress did not outlaw. The “Riot of Rage” needs to begin in the US>
