Jewelry Safes Is copper wire jewelry safe to wear?
i have been making handmade neckpieces and other wearable art and i love using copperwire in various thickness/gauges...they're really beautiful on murano glass beads.. Anyway, this morning i was suddenly thinking if it's bad on the skin or something like avoid getting near electrically charged stuff...ridiculous, paranoid, but is it safe at all?
I also enjoy working with copper--it's beautiful, isn't it? I've really only had two problems with it. Firstly, it'll screw you up if you're sensitive to metals (i.e. not so good for ear wires) and I've found that it reacts badly with some people's skin chemistry (particularly my own--it turns me green). However, I've found that applying some sort of spray lacquer or fixative prevents the skin turning, although it does need to be reapplied periodically.

Safe Jewelry Cleaner for Platinum Rings?
Platinum and diamond wedding/engagement bands that I'm looking to clean myself. Please let me know if you have used a product that is safe and won't harm my jewelry.
It is very difficult to harm platinum and diamonds. My best advice is to use diluted Mr. Clean and very warm water - soak the rings for a few minutes and then use a very soft toothbrush (one of your old ones that's gone through the dishwasher works perfectly) to gently brush around the diamond. You can use a toothpick to remove any remaining debris and then gently press on each stone with the toothpick to make sure that it doesn't move. If the stone moves then immediately put the ring in a baggie and take it to a trusted jeweler. Never continue to wear a ring with a loose stone. Also examine your ring under good lighting to make sure that the prongs holding your diamond in are in good shape and aren't bent or broken. For a platinum ring's prong to actually bend would be highly unlikely due to the hardness of the metal but a break in the prong is possible.
You can also use diluted ammonia, windex, dish detergent (like Dawn or Ajax), plain hot water, special "jewelry" cleaning solutions and probably a few others I've forgotten. Do not EVER use anything containing bleach - it does nasty things to jewelry. Don't wear jewelry while swimming in pools and be aware that salt water can pit metals so be aware of that at the beach.
