I like Kajukenbo. It is a mixture of Karate, Judo, Jiu Jitsu, Kenpo, and Chinese Boxing. We also incorporate lots of Muay Thai and traditional boxing techniques. What I like about it is that we are taught moves for realistic situations. On the street, the other guy isn't gonna stop when you tap so we learn techniques to really mess someone up and get out of bad situations. We are also taught stick fighting and how to defend against knives, even disarm them. It may all depend on the instructor though and what they offer.

So, as far as efficiency, it depends what your purpose is. If you want to compete, most MMA gyms are well rounded and teach several arts which is great. You learn to become proficient in several arts.

KAHN, DAVID - MASTERING KRAV MAGA: VOLUME 1

Krav Maga (Paperback)

Krav Maga (Paperback)

$24.66

Krav Maga, the official self-defense system of the Israeli Defense Force, was initially developed after World War II to train soldiers to fend off attacks both armed and unarmed. Today Krav Maga is taught as a martial art for self-defense as well as fitness. The foundations of Krav Maga lie in the "six pillars": simultaneous defense and attack, staying in continuous motion, taking swift and decisive action, focusing on soft tissue and pressure points to fend off the enemy, following a building block learning process, and mastering subduing techniques. A beginning kravist will learn the essential techniques and increase fitness in three months, using this book as directed. Illustrations demonstrating form and procedure, photographs of poses, and stories of the self-defense experiences of the "true kravist" thoroughly explain Krav Maga for the novice.

Black Belt Krav Maga (Paperback)

$22.32

As the official defensive tactics system of Israeli police, military, and elite special operations units, krav maga has proven its effectiveness from front lines and back streets to prisoner transport and "take no prisoners" missions. For the first time, "Black Belt Krav Maga" teaches and illustrates the discipline`s most lethal fighting and self-defense moves in book format. These no-holds-barred street fighting techniques are designed to do one thing and one thing only: end a fight as quickly as possible by completely disabling an opponent. Extensive counterattacks are illustrated for the most dangerous situations, including neutralizing attackers armed with guns, knives, and other weapons. The program in Black Belt Krav Maga trains readers to functionduring the stress and shock of a sudden, violent encounter and react with a perfectly coordinated counterattack--quickly, automatically, and with deadly accuracy.

JKD,Krav Maga, UFC,MMA, Muay Thai--Clugston tells it all

I'm gonna start learning a martial art, should i take JKD, northern Shaolin krav maga, or muay thai?

JKD, Krav Maga, or Muay Thai would all be good choices, but it really depends on finding a good instructor. No amount of teaching from a bad instructor is going to make you a good martial artist. In fact, it would do you more harm and you waste both money and time.

Ask if you could observed a class because you are interested in learning. Some places will even let you take a class for free. A legitimate school wants someone who is serious about learning and would be willing to answer you questions. A McDojo wants your money and will pressure you into signing on the spot.

  1. I've written a few posts about Bruce Lee, you can find them by searching my archives.

Sure, Warren Buffet is unusually skilled. That, and nowhere short of that, is where I want to be! So I'd choose an uncertain path to greatness over a certain road to mediocrity.

My personal opinion is that JKD and Krav Maga are overrated. Be limitless is a beautiful theory, but a lousy method.
