Laptop Pda Voice
Laptop or PDA?
As a Marine, when i go out with a unit i need to write office documents about the excersise and review photos taken (on compact flash card or using usb card reader). Can i do that with a pda and key board or do i need a laptop. I would also like voice recording abilities.
If i got a PDA i would use a bluetooth keyboard not the little onscreen thing. I dont want to have more gear than i need which turns into more weight to carry.
cost is an issue thats why im looking at a PDA. I can not buy a toughbook.
You can use a Panasonic toughbook. These are designed for military uses.

As for a PDA, there are many word processors available for Palm OS based handhelds -- Documents to go and Wordsmith. Depending on which interface you like, or what features you need, you can pick and choose.
For Pocket PC, you'll need to add in the cost of Textmaker. http://www.softmaker.com/english/tmp_en.htm
Photos on a card shouldn't be a problem for Palm. I don't know about Pocket PC. You could probably open them in Pocket Internet Explorer.

Whats the best type of Personal Digital Assistant (PDA)?
I need to buy the top of range Personal Digital Assistant, but I have no idea which is which. I need one with navigation software for both a Pocket PC and PC laptop, City Select Europe/America/Africa CD with full unlock provides detailed and attractions, navigation features that may include automatic routing, turn-by-turn directions, off route recalculation and voice prompts plus it should be a mobile phone too. Long range Bluetooth wireless communication, and should have magnetic mount or similar.
Dell Axim X30 hands down. But brand new with GPS and all that, it'll be $500+. But well worth the money in the long run. It has all that and more, except for the magnetic mount. Wouldn't that damage the circuitry?
