Laptop Safes How Do I make my Laptop Safe to Sell?
I want to buy a new laptop and sell my old one. But I want to make sure that the next owner can't tap into my personal info, like my web browsing, emails, and such. How can I do that? Should I run the recovery disk on it a lot of times?
PS- any good laptop recommendations as well? I want something fast and that has wifi.
If you want to be extra careful, you can do a sanitization of the disk before re-installing the OS. A good open source program for this is Eraser:

You can make a boot disk that will allow you to do a repetitive format of your drive, which will overwrite each section of your drive with ones, then zeros, then random white noise. It will do this several times (35 is recommended by DoD standards), and will probably take a long time, maybe even a few days depending on the speed of the drive.
Once this format series is done, you can re-load the OS with the OEM disks and be sure that your personal data is completely gone.
I usually do this with Hard Disks before I sell them or give them away.
We all have our secret hiding places around the house where we stash our valuables. Some people use a drawer in their dresser, keep goods under a mattress, and some even try hiding extra cash in their freezer. Burglars are good at finding these special hiding places. One answer is to get a traditional locking safe, but one that is heavy enough to discourage theft will generally be rather expensive. BrickHouse Security has a simple and affordable solution that's as discrete as it is clever. Choose from one of 3 functional household items that have been specially designed to conceal your valuables. These are not simply safes camouflaged to look like something else, but they are fully functioning products, whether you choose the hair brush, lint roller, or aluminum spray bottle. Protect your valuables with a diversion safe and be confident that no one will find your secret stash. Storage Capacity Brush 18 cubic inches Lint Roller 38 cubic inches Spray bottle 62 cubic inches

How do you do a system recovery on a laptop in safe mode?
my laptop won't load into the original windows...so i have to do safe mode and i have no sound and it's really getting on my nerves! so step by step how do I do a system recovery!! please help! ( all it does when i try to start windows normally is have that bar moving across the page and then the screen goes black with the mouse..and it should have the windows logo appear and then have me put a password in) PLEASE HELP!!
If you are referring specifically "Safe Mode", you are to spam F8 key once your power on your laptop.
You can do the recovery in safe mode if I'm not wrong, as usual like in Windows... Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.
However, if you are trying to restore to factory default, best is to call the service centre as I don't know the brand of your laptop.
Never turn off a computer unless you absolutly have to.
The constant heating and cooling of your components if they are turned on and off often, will cause them to become brittle, and eventually break.
Leaving your computer on will avoid this problem… yes you have the danger of wearing out your fan, but it's chaper to replace a fan that it is anything else.
Remove the battery so you don't over chage it, and let it run off the mains… if it's going to be on anyway, then you may want to set up virus scans of defrags to happen whilst your asleep.
Some people thinks it;s strange to leave it running 24/7… but think about it, how often do you turn off your fridge?
The only time I ever turn mine off is if I'll be aways from it for more than 2 days… other than that it's a waste!
Neither.
