Large Gun Pistol
Any shooters out there? Want advice on a pistol to buy.?
I want a pistol, I can handle recoil well and favor larger calibers I like guns that you can feel kick in your hand. The problem with that is I have small hands, I have tried a 1911 before and could hold the single stack comfortably but firing my friends double stack .45 was a challenge and generally unconfortable. Anyhow I have a .45 already and am looking for a 9mm. I've really been looking at the Springfield xD but am not really sure I haven't heard that much about it. Anyone else have any suggestions or advice on that gun?
I'll be using it for range shooting and home defense, I'm not a rabid killer jeeze.
So, what you are talking about is primarily a fit issue. So there are a couple of ways to go at this. First, in a 9mm, given what you have said I'd look at a 1911 in 9mm. Practically every major 1911 manufacturer makes them now, and are several generations into it, so they run great. Colt, Kimber, Springfield, Taurus, Dan Wesson all make a 9mm version if not several. Particularly if you get an aluminum frame model these are quite fast to handle.
Second option - the Ruger SR9 was specifically designed to have a flat profile to make it easier to carry, that more or less works in your favor, so I'd take a look at one of those.
Third option - I'd take a look at some of the Kahr pistols. The K9 is a beautiful gun, and they now make one larger, two smaller and in polymer or stainless. They are DA only guns, but again run great and are accurate. A Kahr K9 in black stainless with night sights has been on my list for some time.
Fourth option - You don't mention it, but given what you describe I'd actually consider a DA/SA revolver. Because they aren't restricted to having a magazine in the handle they have more options in the shape of the grip.
Now, to specifically answer your question about the XD, it is an excellent firearm and a good value. It has proven itself in competition (Rob Leatham shoots one in Production Division IPSC among others) as well as in law enforcement and in military overseas. It is well into it's 3rd generation of refinement and while I haven't shot the M version extensively it is getting good press. Now regarding my personal experience? It entirely reflects the above except for one problem. I can't shoot them to save my life. Well, perhaps that's an exaggeration. They are really comfortable in my hand (also big palms and average length fingers) but I have trouble getting a consistent grip placement so they don't point that naturally for me, and the issue is side to side vs. up and down. So, unless I am concentrating I really don't group with them as well as I do with other comparable firearms like a Glock or a Walther.
A competative product as a comparison point with a flat profile in the same price range I'd take a look at an FNP9. Also a fine weapon.

For Gun Buffs, Best pistol for home defense?
The parameters are such:
Atleast a 6 shot capacity, the more the merrier
Larger Calibers are better, 9MM is the minimum
Reliability is essiential, no jamming models

If you are somewhat new to owning and useing a pistol I would recommend a revolver. A .38 or .357 are great for this purpose. Stored at least 15-20 from your bed. Spend a few more $$ for selfe defence ammo. It has more stopping effect and there is less of a chance of it going through walls and injuring someone else. The reason I say this is because if you are awakened in the midddle of the night and you are startled and your adrenaline is pumping, believe it or not you will most likely have trouble "remembering" how to use your semi-auto pistol. Plus a revolver never jams. If you do decide to go with a semi-auto or even an ice pick as far as that goes ,practice practice practice. At the range and even with the gun UNLOADED in your bedroom or where ever you plan to store it. With the semi-auto your body needs to go through the sequence of holding the gun correctly and taking off the safety or safeties a few hundred times for it to become automatic in your mind and become something you can do in the dark. As far as the 15-20 feet, this gives you that few seconds that are critical to become coherent enough to make a good judgement. I personally keep mine under my side of the bed in an electronic safe. That way I don't have to expose myself to go after my weapon and you have to be "awake" to push in the 4 digit code to open the spring loaded door on the safe. This might sound like too much info but remember that you want a weapon to keep you and yours safe. So please safety first. The last thing anyone needs is to lose a loved one by the meens meant to protect them. A shotgun is the best for home protection if you have a safe place to store it.

Video games are supposed to be a gentle escape for a few hours from the general boredom of day to day life. However as the market for video games becomes more profitable the stakes become higher.
Halo is a very good example of hype verses quality, the campaign from Microsoft would make you believe that halo 3 is the greatest game in the history of video gaming. The truth is that Halo is a good game but nothing more than a game.
The graphics on Halo 3 are really good and the game play is brilliant, however its an unfinished game that looked like the single player game was an afterthought for the multilayer game.
